Its Kolhapur's ... Its Newspaper ... Its ENGLISH !!! Welcome.

Yes finally Kolhapur got its first News paper which is entirely and wholy in English. "Mahalaxmi Times" is the English Newspaper wholy & solely of Kolhapurkars. Weekly though to begin but it is a great step taken towards increasing the Living Standards of Kolhapur. The first edition came to stands on 15th of April and the third issue is on stands today. A eight page compilation published by Poonam Enterprises has a high print quality printed on the good paper giving it a rich feel. The current circulation is a mere 5000 copies but we are very optimistic that this paper will become one of the leading paper at Kolhapur. Mr.Ashish Wagh of Poonam Enterprises said that instead of increasing the number of copies we will love to work on improving the quality of contents. And we also will agree to that as lots of work still needs to be done on the contents. The present contents are not enough reading for a day set aside a week. The Project Head Mrs.Ananya Wagh while talking of response of the people at Kolhapur over the first issue came out with some interesting facts. Many people have called her for Advertisments which was expected but apart from that quite a few also called for subscription which was not expected. Thus on public demand the second issue had a subscription form therein. "The people calling us and appriciating our work , asking for subscription etc has incresed our faith in success of our venture." said Ananya. Also people at Kolhapur have welcomed the paper with a great enthusiasm. "Kolhapur needed an English Newspaper since long and this one is a Great Begining" said Mr.Ravindra uberoi of Mahalaxmi Apprels.

STPI MEET AT KOLHAPUR

Software Technology Park of India through its Kolhapur Branch organised a meet at Kolhapur on 28/04/2006. Disscusing the Facilities that STPI provided Mr.P.Venugopal the Director STPI elaborated the STP , EHTP , Datacommunication Services , Incubation Facilities , Hosting Facilities etc. All these services are available across all the 44 branches of STPI is what he emphasiesd. However the BPO and IT industry at Kolhapur has a different story to tell. When asked for server co-location , web-hosting & like services Pramod Kulkarni the Asst.Director STPI said no company has approached us so far for these services at Kolhapur & if any one does we will be providing the infrastructure.

The kolhapur scenario is quite diffrent as all the major businesses have not yet waken up to IT & thus are not interested in Investing. Outside Investers may or may not be interested in Kolhapur due to lack of knowledge about the City & the ammneties it can provide. So that leaves on SMEs (Small & Medium Enterprise) , One Man Company or an Individual Enterprenuer to use and make good of Kolhapur. The question that now arises is whether STPI and like organisation do really have something for this segment. Though the authorities at STPI have been stating that they have considered this class and have services for them as well but the ground reality seems to be diffrent. In practicality the SMEs or Individuals will not or rather can not go through all the the procedure to become an STPI recognised unit. That becomes even more true in B & C Class cities. So to make Kolhapur an developed IT Centre organisations such as STPI and others must develop the facilities & plans which will be beneficial and accessible to SMEs and Individuals.

Is it possible for Kolhapur to become an IT City . . . ?

POLITICAL UPS & DOWNS IN KMC

Kolhapur Municipal Corporation(KMC) has witnesses a never before political turn around in the past week. The ruling coalition Tararani Front was left to minority when one of the constituent leaders "Maloji Raje Chhatrapati" left the alliance along with 15 corporators to form his new group. It was a unique situation when Congress leader left the Congress led coalition. The master mind behind the working of KMC for last decade and a half "Mahadevrao Mahadhik" a leading businessman & sitting MLC said that he does not believe that the leader of coalition has actually left the alliance. The other leaders of congress however said that they still would like to stay with Mahadhik and that the act by Chhatrapati was a personal deed and not the opinion of the party. The siting MLA of Kolhapur Maloji Raje felt a loss of dignity in interating with the other leaders of coalition. The new group formed by this division later went into a alliance with the Jan Surajya Shakti - Nationalist Congress Party. The JSS-NCP leaders Vinay Kore & Hassan Mushrif welcomed this event with great enthusiasm. On reacting to this Mahadevrao Mahadhik said that he still has the same respect for the yuvraj as he had prior to this event & that he will continue to honor the Royal Family. The Current Mayor Sou.Sai Kharade though being a Congress member has still however not resigned from the post & wishes to stay in power. Surprisingly the other leaders of Tararani Alliance - Karveer's siting MLA Satej Patil & Businessman / activist Dhananjay (Muna) Mahadhik have not given any major statements over the issues.

However all these events happening in this short duration have given Kolhapur people a good point to talk and discuss. Past few days everybody at Kolhapur has been commenting on the situations going on. For some it has been a tense situation while for some a celebration.

Don't forget to leave your comment.
